Roofing contractors, builders, general construction websites require promotion just like any other business. After reading this guide you will have a better understanding of what it takes to promote your home improvement business on the Internet.

I have been involved with the promotion of my own metal roofing website for about 16 months now, and I have made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I have learned a good lesson from my mistakes and I want to share some of the insights with you.

If you own a construction related home improvement site, then I recommend submitting it to as many trusted on topic directories as you can find. There are plenty of home improvement and builder's related businesses directories that will list your construction site with no reciprocal link as long as your site is a quality one. Thus my biggest recommendation would be to build a quality site with some original content. Whatever home improvement topic your website covers, make sure that you make it great and insightful so that other web masters will be more inclined to link to your website

I don't recommend that you go and try to exchange as many links with other sites as possible, because it is not going to help you with the search engines, if anything it could hurt you. What happens is that search engines are not stupid and they will see your link exchanging practices as an attempted spam. Stay away from link exchanges as they are a total waste of time. They add very little to no value in terms of back links gained.

The only exception would be if their proportion to the over all back links to your site is small and that they are very good quality links. From the search engine's point of view, site engaging in link exchanges, or requiring reciprocal. Links are not particularly trust worthy, and should be avoided.

Remember that your focus should be on one way incoming links from related topics. This may seem difficult to accomplish at first, but if you can find the sites related to your building niche that accept topical article submissions, then you are in luck, as you can write a semi decent article on the related builder's topic and include a text back link to your own website. For instance, I recently wrote an article on metal roofing that I submitted to another roofing website which listed my article along with the important anchor text to my website. Thus I was able to get a free one way on topic link to my website. And guess what in a few weeks I was able to rank for that particular anchor text on Google. That was huge, and my metal roofing web site made the first page on Google for that key phrase.

The reason why I have exchanged the links with these sites was that I found them important enough to be listed on them. I also took care to make sure that my reciprocal links were only a small portion of the back links to my site. The majority of back links to my roofing site are still one way links
